Target product

Target product, originally uploaded by cdaileycrafton.

Observe the packaging ambush. Target’s new look looks supiciously similar to the name brand version of the same product… Several times. And beyond that, they don’t organize their products together on shelf, but always place them next to the name brand product with which they are competing. It’s their own store, so they do have the prerogative to do so, but I find it very interesting. Click on the photo above to view the flickr set and get the full effect.

Target is not competing with another brand, it's selling you waht's called “Private Label”. they get the product- usually the same exact thing- form the SAME manufacturer, with a generic label (or some made up brandthat target inside marketing group came up with). it is sold for less then the brand name (the marketing is now paid by Target, therefore saves the manufactures a lot of $).
it is a very common practice from your local supermarket, to pharmacy to dept. stores.
so– if you're smart- buy the generic next to the brand- it is the same – for less!!
ps- i work in fashion- we do it all the time: same pair of pants that would sell for $80 @ macy's, is going for $24 @ Target- we make the difference in the profit by volume.

ah, i see. i used to work at l'oreal usa, and i knew that the luxury brands and mass brands that l'oreal held shared formulas. i did realize it went across organizational lines.
