the propaganda heydays

german_poster_header.jpg

upon posting the fruit labels, i began thinking about other vintage, mass-circulation forms of print design, and naturally my mind went to propaganda posters. check out this great collection of ww1 posters. click on the different countries in the sidebar to the right to see the posters. i personally believe that the germans have the best-designed posters like this one and this one, though i suppose that’s a matter of taste. it is interesting to see that each country has a distinct style or “brand” if you will. enjoy.

nice links jeremy! it’s like they peeped into the future and saw what would be hot. actually, we peeped back and saw that good design is timeless and thus continue to use it.

Hi Dailey, I too really adore vintage posters, especially propagandistic ones. Design-wise they are almost always very well-done. Here are some Chinese ones that I thought was kind of neat as well:

    Thanks!

I also found an ebay store” that has beautiful Chinese cultural revolution items. My favorite are the 2 color woodblock prints on rice paper – 24 x 18″ and they go for about 8 USD. There are also a bunch of communist issued masthead books with amazing clip art from that era. Really fun stuff.
