linocut has long been established as an acceptable medium for fine art. picasso was one of the early proponents of it. but we think linocut has great graphic design and production potential too. the lines between fine art/illustration/design are often blurry, but some distinctions can be made (and that’s another discussion). and true, you will [...]
yes indeed! and don’t worry, we’ve made the timeframe of the project very short and will have everything completed in time for you to have you cards by mother’s day. check it out and make mom and dad proud!
recently i made what is maybe the greatest twitter list of all time, composed of all the bklyn renegade craft fair 2011 vendors i could find on twitter (yes, i’m promoting this again. you know it’s awesome. and if you’re a renegade vendor and are missing from the list, let me know!). anyway, it was [...]
as we mentioned on twitter, our kickstarter project is full-on funded, and we still have until friday to keep raising funds! so, if you want in on the action, there’s still time. check out the pictures below of one of the new houses we’ll be printing. this is a very exciting time for us, because [...]
but the end result was a really great “die-cut” sign shaped like a platter. if you’re in the nyc area, go by pier 94 to see think fabricate at the show this week.
the williamsburg neighborhood in brooklyn, ny is know for a lot of things, but impressive architecture isn’t one of them. however, we’ve managed to spot a few gems scattered about and we set out to capture their beauty in a unique way. we’ve photographed these buildings and created distinctive illustrations of each one. we’re really [...]
curiosity drives me to rummage through things people leave on the street. curiosity also drives my 4-year-old daughter, chloe, to rummage through leaves on the street. or generosity rather, i suppose. a few days ago as i walked with chloe to school, she bent down, picked up a leaf, handed it to me and said, [...]
it’s about to come out of the sketch stage and into the digital rendering stage. after that it will be the transfer to linoleum block, cut and print stages. gonna have the finished product ready this week so folks can get their hands on some in time for the big day. my plan is to [...]
the lfb williamsbuildings towels are now available at our etsy shop and will be available at supermarket soon!
so, we are (and by that i mean i am) launching a set of tea towels with the lfb williamsbuildings printed on them. they’ll be available in the lfb etsy and supermarket shops this week, but here’s a sneak peak;
as we mentioned a few posts back, we’re rolling out some new handmade design goods soon. to accommodate, we are discontinuing and liquidating our current stock of williamsbuilding prints (the linocut building block prints). they’re now 3 for $10, which is a steal. we even thought about letting people just come into the studio and [...]
here’s a little preview of a new line that will be available in the lfb etsy and supermarket shops soon.
enjoyed looking at this poster that christopher from mine sent over. paper cut out illustration by yulia brodskya.
i know it’s hard to convey the true feel of an event through a blog post, but i was super-geeked when i arrived at the adc paper expo. i loaded up on new paper sample books and all kinds of other printed goodies. there’s a few more pictures here.
ya know, for all of the grief that UO gets for stealing people’s artwork, it’s super cool of them to use their clout to promote artists in this way. way to be, urban outfitters.
the demise of print is topic that has had at least somewhat broad discussion among graphic designers since the web continues to grow and grow. yes, print is shrinking/will shrink more in it’s use, but it’s not going away, and i think we may even see a digital “backlash” to a certain extent. following are [...]
here are a couple of pieces i’ve been wanting to show for while but are unpublished as of right now anyway. you can go see ‘em nice and big and read about ‘em on flickr.
our dear friends jessica and bill franks are in the process of adopting a child from russia. to raise money for the process, jessica has created and is selling a series of prints called “hobby hazard” in her etsy store. we do wholeheartedly support the franks’s and their desire to bring a child out of [...]

i like to call these “the greenest business cards in the universe.” perhaps they’re not, but they’re pretty close. they’re printed on the backs of cereal boxes, so it’s greener than recycled paper, it’s re-purposed paper. and terms of creativity, i think having the cereal box snippets on the back provide an interesting element, and [...]
live from bklyn would like to know your take on this thank you card design that we are working on. cool? lame? let us know what you think.
the live from bklyn “thinking of u” postcards are finished and available for purchase. we will be opening our own live from bklyn design shop very soon, but for now, visit livefrombklyn.etsy.com
last weekend i attended the wedding of melissa and brannon mcallister. as a gift for the guests, they had these fine, fine letterpress posters created by hatch show print.
friends of live from bklyn, i’m pleased to announce that we have opened a live from bklyn etsy shop (livefrombklyn.etsy.com). you can purchase fine art friday prints, as well as other prints of buildings in williamsburg, brooklyn and ornamental letterforms.
so i came across this greeting card and had to post. very clever.
a dandy of an ad from our good friends over at hello health. it needs no explanation. and, if you live in the nyc area and are sans health insurance, do look into hello health. they are truly the future of health care.
