analysis of the beatles’ hair

by now many of you have seen the above image at apple.com promoting the beatles on itunes. indeed the beatles are probably the #1 rock band of all time. and yes, mostly for their music. but what is a rock band if not but it’s hair styles? that’s right. i think a good 23.43% of the beatles success as a band can be attributed to their hair. and not all hair is created equal. even among the beatles, there are superior and inferior ‘dos.

george harrison, “the mane” – george’s hair, in my opinion is far superior to the hair of all of the other beatles combined. the waves! the layers! the sheer volume! what a stylistic masterpiece. well done george harrison.

paul mccartney, “the mullet” – paul mccartney is the only person in history to have sported a mullet and it be cool. and really, only paul mccartney could do such a thing. and when you can do that, you know your hair is amazing. there’s a even a tumblog dedicated to the cute one’s mullet.

john lennon, “the mop” – and here the inferiority starts to show. the straight, volume-less form pails in comparison to the glory that is the mane. and without mccartney’s face to bolster any uncomely hairdo, john lennon appears to be a common hippie.

ringo starr, “the fraggle rock” – poor ringo. this guy always gets the worst of it.
